MADISON, Wis.—The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) will participate in the federally funded Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program during the 2026–27 school year. All students at participating schools will have an opportunity to receive free breakfast and lunch. 

“Making sure students have reliable access to nutritious meals is an important part of supporting their success in the classroom,” said Josh Perkins, MMSD’s director of food and nutrition. “CEP helps us make that access simple and consistent for students and families, while ensuring students can start their school day ready to learn and have the nourishment they need throughout the day.”

Families at CEP schools do not need to submit household applications for their students to receive free meals, but all MMSD families are encouraged to submit meal benefit applications to support overall district funding opportunities.

CEP provides federal reimbursement for meals served to students, allowing MMSD to expand access to nutritious food without relying on local taxpayer dollars to cover the associated costs.

• Lori Mann Carey Elementary School
• Mendota Elementary School
• John Muir Elementary School
• Orchard Ridge Elementary School
• Carl Sandburg Elementary School

• Annie Greencrow Whitehorse Middle School
