MADISON, Wis.—The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) has been named to Forbes’ 2026 list of America’s Best Employers by State, earning a spot among 75 organizations recognized in Wisconsin and making MMSD one of only two school districts in the state included on the list.

MMSD employs more than 7,000 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees who work across the district’s schools and departments in a wide range of roles supporting more than 25,000 students and the broader Madison community. The district is one of the largest employers in the Madison area and offers career opportunities spanning education, student services, health care, food and nutrition, transportation, facilities, technology, finance and administration.

Forbes develops its Best Employers by State rankings in partnership with market research firm Statista. The rankings are based primarily on employee survey responses, along with additional research and analysis. Per the magazine, employees are asked to evaluate their employers across factors including whether they would recommend their organization to others, as well as characteristics such as salary, work environment, benefits and opportunities for advancement.

“Being recognized by Forbes is a meaningful reflection of the people who make MMSD such a special place to work,” said Jennifer Trendel, MMSD’s senior executive director of human resources. “Our employees bring tremendous skill, dedication and purpose to their work every day, and we are committed to creating an environment where they feel valued and empowered to grow. We are proud to have more than 7,000 people working together in service to our students, families and community.”

MMSD offers employees opportunities for professional learning and advancement, along with a broad range of positions and career pathways. The district also invests in partnerships and programs designed to support employees throughout their careers, including leadership development, professional learning and pathways into education and school leadership.

The Forbes recognition comes as MMSD prepares for the 2026–27 school year and continues its work to recruit and retain talented educators and staff across the district.
